Take that next step to a Career in Office Administration with Pitman Training Kerry

There is a lot of scope when embarking on a Career in Office Administration as there are a wide range of jobs and positions in administration. Many organisations advertise junior office administration roles which provide an excellent stepping stone for school leavers to gain work experience and start building that Career.

These entry route jobs form a logical path to higher positions along the way, but what qualifications and experience do candidates need to become equipped with along the way?

Opportunities

One of the more logical solutions to Career progression is by accepting an administrative job in a more specialised department. General Office Administrators may choose to become Medical Administrators or Medical Secretaries or Legal Administrators or Legal Secretaries, who work in high-tier professional environments and can eventually progress into Personal Assistant roles for company executives or other senior management positions.

Office administrators also often have incredible scope when it comes to internal job vacancies within certain organisations. Administrators can choose to follow new roles when they believe they match any previous experience or qualifications they might have, with Sales and Marketing and HR being

very popular choices.

Hard and Soft Skills for Office Administration Jobs

Office administrators need to enhance their soft skills when working on their career progression. Administrators tend to be the face of many companies, so this position automatically affords them with abilities to enhance their customer service and communication skills at most times throughout their working day. It is important for employees to pay particular attention to any times they have given exceptional service or went above the call of duty. These instances and stories will always prove themselves to be useful when around the negotiation table.

It is also possible to demonstrate a commitment to high standards of communication and other soft skills by joining a professional body, such as the Association of Professional Administrators in Ireland. Affiliation with these groups will show prospective employers that candidates are indeed serious about their roles and aim to become versatile, well-rounded workers.

Technical Qualifications

As much of today's administration is computed, candidates who have the necessary IT qualifications will be one step ahead at the negotiation table. This is especially true of Microsoft's Office package which undergoes regular updated versions and requires workers to stay proficient with the software's increasing capabilities. The Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) qualification is the most recognised qualification for demonstrating this skill.

At Pitman Training Kerry we have training courses to suit all of the aforementioned roles and professional career advice from our in-house Course Advisors to help you along the way.  For details on the qualifications that will help you achieve your Career goals click on any of the below links.
