In a nod to International Women’s Day in March we are highlighting those traditional Male Dominated Careers where women are excelling in each week this month

This week we focus on Accounting and Finance Careers

A career in accounts can be extremely rewarding. It is a good secure profession that is always in high demand and has lots of potential to offer inspiring and interesting options at every level for women. In the accounting field in Ireland female participation in the profession has strengthened with recent studies showing a 50/50 split. However one of the primary challenges that women face in today’s accounting field is that it is hard to get promoted and advance beyond the role of Part Qualified Accountant or Accounts Assistant which in turn results in female accountants are often paid less than men who qualified at the same time.  A positive step in the right direction last May was the appointment of Shauna Greely who was elected President of Chartered Accounts Ireland – the first female president in over 30 years in this organisation.
